Nantucket had nothing but sunshine to offer last week. Only one problem with that – when do you leave the beach to shop?
That is a hard call to make. But the galleries, book shops, hat shops and everything else you didn’t know you needed is on display on the cobblestone and brick streets of the downtown. While we basked in the casual elegance of Nantucket, dear daughter was working in the Hampton’s. Soul Cycle! I am worried she will transfer affection for this island in the Atlantic for that spit of land known as the Hampton’s! I’m sure the shopping is first class there too, but I would miss the sights and sounds of Nantucket. Do they have a candy shop filled with homemade candies produced in the back of the store? Candy chef on site? Maybe they have as many dress shops. But Nantucket has its share! But back to ACK shopping. If I could choose one item to take home with me, what would it be? I would have purchased another Anne Packard painting. Whenever I see one of her paintings, I walk right up to it as if there is not another painting in the gallery.
She always draws me into her world, simple, serene or stormy, I enter willingly. No, her paintings are now out of my price range, but the windows are filled with affordable, enticing productsfrom the bold and colorful to the simple and sophisticated. and despite the sun pouring through the trees, casting shadows as you walk and walk, at some point, you have to head back to the house, and slip into beach wear (notice I did not say bathing suit! My dearest high school friend came along for part of this trip and she still looks great in a suit – drats! but she works for it and it shows off well!) Shopping is over, but the tour of Nantucket is not over yet, next up will be a garden tour!
Have a cup of tea and join me back on Weed Street later!
