Blizzard Blowing In

A blizzard is blowing our way.IMG_2919

At the start, I am happy to bundle up and sweep the decks, the paths to bird feeders, and to brush snow off boxwood and other shrubs bearing the weight of this heavy snow.  By mid day, we will all be weary of the shoveling and sweeping.  Could this be a found afternoon for reading?  Ann Patchett’s STATE OF WONDER  has me enthralled at the moment.  The main character, Marina, is cast in the middle of the jungle.  The Amazonian humidity, whirr of insects, threat of poisonous snakes and tribal people will pull me from the reality of the forecasted 2 feet of snow!

Or is this the afternoon to study the chair situation.  How many chairs do you need in one home?  Can we cull the herd of chairs?  If divesting yourself of a family heirloom like ours is too painful,

perhaps an update of the upholstery is in order?  A pair of French chairs is currently available in a nearby shop for $18,000.  IMG_2840Re-upholstering them does not seem to have affected their value!  But what if the needlepoint on the family heirloom was lovingly stitched by an ancestor long since lost in the oral history of the chair?  I could spend the afternoon on Pinterest or 1st Dibs looking for ideas for that chair, or wait an hour and it will be time to repeat the shovelling of the paths!  Anything to keep from the chocolate mousse layer cake in the fridge!

What do you like to do during a blizzard?

P.S.  The only ones stirring, are the birds and the ducks this morning (after).DSCN4085

  3. Hi Jayne….Thank you for visiting my blog and yes Dylan gets a few snowballs. The snowballs are usually in his fur since we use mushers secret on his paws to keep the snowballs off, he hates them. Your ducks are brave venturing out on that water but so beautiful!

    Enjoy your weekend!

  5. I also loved “State of Wonder”. I just finished “Flight Behavior” Barbara Kingsolver. Loved it! Now I’m reading Ann Patchett’s “Bel Canto”. We’ll see where it goes — it got a lot of attention.
