Wow, what a garden, Wardenia!

Oft I recommend the Open Days Directory to my readers,  The Guide to Visiting America’s Gardens is an invitation to enter garden paradise.  Today I made my third visit in as many years to a very  special garden in Bedford NY.   We heard distant thunder and the day was overcast, but we wandered over 7 acres of green wonderland.

The unassuming entrance of this very old home gives no clue to the garden delights that await.  Some of the old rhododendron have been cut back or removed from our last visit.

Past the front door and turn the corner,

Can you imagine candles lit, late night conversation, lingering guests, but I am getting ahead of myself!  We are here for a garden tour!

The border near the terrace beckons, and paths lead the way…the excitement builds!

The structure of this garden is impressive.  It allows you to move from room to room, giving form to all there is to take in.

The pool is simple and inviting, accompanied by a little watering hole for frogs and fanciful sculptures.

The pool house is nestled near the water, but we can’t stay for a swim, there is still so much to see!

The white phlox in this garden seems to have escaped the mildew that has struck mine!

Paths lead you on and on….

So many gardens reach a lull in July, but this garden is so vibrant!

There were quite a few visitors today, despite a bit of rain, but we only had occasional glimpses of other guests as we ambled along.

This area always puzzles me.  Croquet court?  Former grass tennis court?

This is a most enchanting area – the kitchen garden!

There are so many more trails to walk and vistas to see, but I know a blog should be short and sweet!  I will try to speed this walk up!

Three water gardens, fern garden, marsh garden, woodland walk, hidden garden…… so much more to see, but like the owner of this garden,
