Friday Frolic

Few words today, just a frolic through the garden…..

The yellow flag iris decorate the pond banks (iris pseudacoris).

The raised beds are just about full with transplants or seeds!

The first rose, R.’Terese Bugnet’ has bloomed!

Clematis too!

Lonicera blooms with  Clementine precariously close to a 12 foot drop!  Fortunately, her shoulders keep her safe.

Maybe she is watching the tomatoes grow!

Before I go, one more – the Dutchman’s pipe, Aristolochia.  If you were ever told stories about the elves and fairies, I am sure this plant figured in their world!

Wow! You have been busy! And you made use of all the (known and unknown) supports you inherited. What’s under the “V” shaped ones?

You have so many things I’m envious of — the clematis and the Dutchman’s pipe being two. We thought about using it on our pergola but opted for honeysuckle and trumpet vine, which turned out to be a good choice. Great screening.

What are you using for mulch? I’ve still got the straw on mine but am thinking of “green mulching” with alyssum, at least in the herb beds in the back. I’ll be posting today about my progress, but you’re definitely way ahead!

  2. I actually do have alyssum coming up from last year around the tomatoes – the bed had dahlias last year. I don’t mulch the beds – I found the straw invited chipmunks and other nasty nocturnal types – I dont know why….
The “v” structures were the puzzle. I planted cucumbers, thinking the vine would climb up and keep the cucumbers from sitting on the wet earth.
Will watch to see what you have been up to!!
